Texting for Counterfeit Drug Information

23 08 2010

Wow. Now this might be helpful for people who own cell phones. The thing is, is that not everyone who needs to know whether their drugs are real or fake own cell phones. However, this is very nice for those who do. It says in the article that this service is for people to find out about their medicines.

They send in a text with the code and will find out if it is real or not. This will be very quick and helpful for those about to take some medication. If the drug is registered and real they will receive an “OK” response in their in-box. If the drug is not registered and potentially a fake they will receive a text that says “No. Please recheck code.”

“Consumers can now take the war (against counterfeit drugs) into their own hands,” said Dr. Paul B. Orhii, director-general of Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control. The use of everyday technology will greatly help patients. I just hope that this purpose will not get hindered by getting tapped into. We need a reliable source of information quickly at our fingertips. This is hopefully the solution.

You can read the rest of the article written by Maria Cheng at Associated Press. The article is called “Africans text message to check if drugs are real” I found this website that was linked at the bottom of the article called Pedigree. Check it out for more counterfeit information.
