U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka

26 05 2011

I found an article about the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka. They recently hosted a seminar on the dangers of counterfeit drugs for pharmacists and law enforcement officials. The American Chamber of Commerce, the National Intellectual Property Office, the Sri Lankan Chamber of Pharmaceutical Industry (SLCPI), and the U.S. Embassy in Colombo organized the workshops in which they titled “Protecting Sri Lankan Families from Counterfeit Drugs.”

Their main focus was the educate pharmacists, doctors, the police and other government officials to work together to protect Sri Lankan families from the dangers of counterfeit drugs.

Mr. Edward Heartney, Economic Counselor of the U.S. Embassy has said that every country has to deal with the problem of fake, counterfeit, and unregistered drugs and he was pleased to see the active participation of Sri Lanka’s pharmacists, chemists, pharmacy students, and pharmacy owners at the workshop as they play a critical role in countering the fraud.
