TPI Sold Fakes

3 11 2012

Here’s the latest news about the TPI scandal I’ve been posting about lately. You can read the first post HERE and the second post HERE.   TPI claimed that they were not making fake drugs and that they didn’t have the capacity to do so, but now the TFDA has stated that they were selling fakes and they are doing everything they can do fix the problem.

The TFDA Director General, Mr Hiiti Sillo, told journalists in Dar es Salaam that contrary to TPI’s denials, his authority has documents and exhibits proving that the company was behind the production of the ARVs. “The documents and exhibits have been submitted to security organs for further action,” he stated. He further said that the company has been suspended from manufacturing ARVs. On October 23, an inspection was conducted by TFDA and confirmed that TPI weren’t making any more ARVs.  They are still continuing to monitor the drugs in the market to ensure they are safe.
