Doctor in Kentucky Accused of Fake IUDs

19 06 2013

A doctor in Elizabethtown, KY is facing charges of allegedly giving women birth control that was not FDA approved. Doctor Cahn Vo is the owner of Bluegrass Women’s Health Care in Elizabethtown. The birth control that is in question happens to be the IUD (intrauterine device), which is a small “T-shaped” device placed in the uterus to prevent pregnancy. Federal investigators say doctor Vo passed off a foreign version of the device as the more expensive, approved version and billed private insurers and Medicaid for the higher price.

At this point doctor Vo has only been indicted (as of March 2013), not convicted of anything.  If he is convicted at trial he faces up to 233 years in prison and more than $3 million in fines. Besides the fact that he is billing insurers for more than he paid for the IUD, what is more scary is that he put these in his patients who TRUSTED him. These devices can potentially hurt someone terribly. They may not even work to their intended purpose as birth control.
