Overdose on Fake OxyContin in Saskatoon

24 09 2014

I cannot believe it has been since May that I have posted! I apologize. I was busy finishing my EMT certification, which I finished and I am now certified! My husband was finishing up weapons qualifications and carrier qualifications so he can finish pilot training for the Navy. He will be winging next month! So as I was searching for some news with counterfeits, there doesn’t really seem to be much “new” news. I did find an interesting one dealing with overdoses.

In a city in Canada named Saskatoon potentially police are saying that a deadly synthetic drug being sold as OxyContin 80 is making its rounds in the city. Two men, in their 20s, have died in what appears to be because of taking these pills. They died a day a part. “Instead of OxyContin, the pills may contain other unknown deadly ingredients,” police said in a statement on the case. They also believe that the pills were not manufactured in the city, but where they came from is still unknown.

The pills were described as round convex in shape, blue/green in color with the number 80 stamped on one side and the letters CDN on the other. Genuine OxyContin is the brand name of a powerful pain killer known as Oxycodone. It is an opioid, a synthetic preparation, that can lead to abuse and addiction.

Jamieson’s funeral will be held at Windsor Chapel at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Smith’s funeral is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, 606 Spadina Crescent West. Friends are hosting a steak night on Sept. 29 at Dino’s Bar and Grill on Central Avenue. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $20 with proceeds going to family.
